Hundreds of NC REALTORS® work to improve their communities as part of NC REALTORS® Gives Back Week

Hundreds of REALTORS® across North Carolina recently joined forces to strengthen their communities as part of NC REALTORS® annual Gives Back event. Participating REALTORS® took part in housing-related service projects, volunteer work and made charitable contributions. This year’s Gives Back events were held in conjunction with the National Association of REALTORS® Volunteer Days, a nationwide effort that encourages REALTOR® associations to join in on philanthropic initiatives, to create a whole week of volunteer opportunities.

“REALTORS® all across North Carolina demonstrated their commitment to taking care of the communities in which they live and work during this year’s Give Back Week initiative,” said Michelle Roberts, NC REALTORS® Housing Foundation Board President. “Our members served their communities by supporting meaningful projects that have a real impact on people’s lives. I’m proud of the impact our hard-working members made during this year’s NC REALTORS® Gives Back.”

REALTORS® supported a variety of organizations and causes as part of this year’s Gives Back event, including food banks, food pantries such as the Bountiful Blessing Food Pantry Society, the BackPack Buddies program, litter cleanups in parks and on streets throughout the state, Habitat for Humanity projects, and raising funds for non-profit organizations.

The NC REALTORS® Housing Foundation supported NC REALTORS ® Gives Back by offering grants to local REALTOR® associations to assist with outreach projects as well as providing service t-shirts sponsored by Jim Allen Group and North State Bank.

A number of local association leaders spoke out about their members’ work during NC REALTORS® Gives Back initiative.

“Our members care about making a difference in our community and go above and beyond to support our foundation’s community outreach programs and services,” said Terrie Marshal, Canopy REALTORS® Housing Foundation Executive Director. To support Gives Back, the association collected over 500 pounds of trash to clean Pearl Street Park, the first African American Public Park built in Charlotte.

“Our association would like to leave a legacy of giving and hope,” said Willo Kelly, Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® Executive. Members of the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® volunteered in the Room at the Inn Donation Drive supporting women and children by collecting items such as infant and children’s clothing, diapers, wipes and other hygiene products.

“We believe very strongly that supporting the community, especially the youth, is how you make a real impact,” said Bonnie White, Johnston County Association of REALTORS® Executive. “We feel the youth is the strength of our community, so we do anything we can to support our youth.” Members of the Johnston County Association of REALTORS® collected food for two elementary schools by organizing five drop off locations for food collection through the BackPack Buddies Program.
